Magdalena Rodriguez is a detective with the San Francisco police department. While working undercover to stop a vicious murderer the media is calling the San Francisco Slasher, she stumbles across a young woman, Kai Seven Travelers. Kai in no way belongs in San Francisco, in October, wearing nothing but a thin silk shirt and cargo shorts. The young woman has no money or ID but does have some wild-assed crazy story about looking for her grandmother. Magdalena knows the woman and knows she can’t be more than three years older than Kai. Intrigued by the young woman’s story and then rescuing her from hypothermia, Magdalena takes Kai home, gets her warm and discovers that somehow she’s managed to fall in love with her!
From this point on, Magdalena’s comfortable life becomes torn apart. She finds herself in love with a woman, something she’d never in her life thought possible. Then she’s kidnapped, her throat slit and her life saved with magic on Aba Nam, a world she’s never heard of or dreamed existed. She has no chance to become comfortable with being in love with a woman; or the magic that saved her life; or the idea of people living on other planets. Because Magdalena Rodriguez abruptly finds herself with Taagen Davis fighting for their lives in an unsurvivable bog at Arena.
Will she survive? Will her love for Kai Seven Travelers be enough to pull her through? Is Taagen Davis the warrior she’s been told he his?
