Jeffrey Conley, a A middle-aged man with Asperger's Syndrome, is disturbed by an overwhelming obsession with death and the physical heart, including a fetish for a woman's heartbeat. He returns to his childhood home after his granny's funeral and visits the field where he walked as a child with his granddaddy. He relives the summer of his ninth year, an idyllic summer in rural Tennessee filled with Sunday dinners with relatives, walks through the field, going to the town square, and buying coins at a flea market. Yet the summer is also marked by loss, and reflecting on this loss will lead Jeffrey to find understanding and healing.
